I am proud that ILWU Local 32 endorses Cassie Franklin for Mayor!

My family has been in Everett for at least the last 100 years. I can look at historical photos of Everett’s working waterfront and I envision my strong, surly grandfather working as a longshoreman on the docks, loading and unloading cargo into the ‘ships.’

Memories from my own childhood include those same docks next to huge container ships where my dad directed crews of longshoremen to raise tethered and floating logs from the water up into the hull of a the ship destined for China or beyond. I also remember apples (lots of apples!) being exported.

Today, my brother is a proud member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and keeps our family’s history of stevedores alive.

Our story exemplifies the deep and important traditions of Everett’s waterfront, and speaks to the obligation to continue to ensure our port has good, family, living-wage jobs that allow financial success and contributions back to our Everett economy.

Everett’s secure, deepwater port, when used for its highest and best value, is an important amenity that will bring increased economic vitality and prosperity. I know Cassie understands as future development comes to our city that job creation, livable wages and inclusion of our local unions are imperative to our success.

ILWU is important to me. It is important to my family and it is important to Cassie. Join me and ILWU Local 32 in supporting Cassie Franklin for Everett mayor!
